This is the history of the descendants of Thomas Liddle as I know it early in the year of our Lord, 2003. Our oldest known ancestor was Thomas Liddle of Roxburghshire, Scotland. While there are a total of eight generations, including Thomas, only information about the first five will be discussed here to protect living members. My generation is the sixth with two more following me.

Some, but not all, of the information has been checked against original records. In that respect, this is a living document with additions and/or corrections to be made as the information becomes available to me.

There are many individuals in the eight generations of descendants of the Scottish emigrant Thomas Liddle. Quite a number of them stayed in the Delaware County, New York area. A few migrated to other cities on the east coast of the U.S. Only three ventured out west to Washington, just after the Civil War of the 1860's, and one of them returned to New York.

This booklet will primarily chronicle the history of the western branch of the family. All known family members down through the fifth generation are listed in the generational report.

Considerable early 1800's information on this family was obtained from the Internet web pages of Delaware County, New York. The Liddle’s were one of the pioneer families in Delaware County, New York. Additional information came from various U. S. Census reports. Some information was provided by documents which had been handed down through family members . It has been enhanced by personal search of genealogy materials in various libraries. The public library in Colfax, Whitman County, Washington contains documents with quite a bit of the history of this family from the late 1800's until now because the Liddle’s were one of the pioneer families in that area. Additional information came from a document titled Descendants of Thomas Liddle” dated February 1993; Compiled by Christine Van Kleeck. A copy of this document was given to me by Ann Liddle of Andes, NY, who married another descendant of our Thomas Liddle. Much of the information compiled by Christine Van Kleeck dovetailed very well with mine.
