SIGNS and WONDERS
BY
Maria Woodworth-Etter
Maria Woodworth-Etter has chronicled her life in this book. This revised edition, is large volume having 569 pages, and was published in 1997 by Whitaker House, 30 Hunt Valley Circle, New Kensington, PA 15068. Her life spanned the years between 1844 and 1924 and many have called her ministry "the most powerful of the modern era."
Many dramatic healings of the most incurably sick occurred as God used this yielded vessel. She experienced the healing power of God instantly mending broken bones, demons being cast out and even the dead raised to life. There were many occasions when she received supernatural protection against murderous enemies.
Mrs. Woodworth-Etter describes the turmoil within herself as she was called into the ministry. During her life-time it was not popular for a woman to have a public ministry. Being the daughter of a drunkard added to the public outcry against her entering the ministry. Preaching placed a heavy physical burden upon Mrs. Woodworth-Etter as she was a married woman with a husband and sickly children to care for. This physical strain contributed to her being plagued with sickness for many of her early years of ministry. During this time she also experienced the death of several of her children which severely tested her faith in God..
At each of her meetings many were gloriously converted from sin as well as numerous healings in their physical bodies. Another phenomenon occurring at many of her meetings were the conviction of sinners even before they arrived at the meeting place. Some of these conversions took place many miles distance from the meeting without any preaching of the gospel or anointing of the individual.
Quoting from page 157 where it states, "It is interesting to note that Mrs. Woodworth-Etter teaches healing in the Atonement (in the same way that we were taught by the Holy Spirit Himself many years ago). She also encourages all the saints to press on for more power from God to do the miraculous works that Jesus said believers should do in His name."
Again, quoting Mrs. Woodworth-Etter, "The more He (meaning Jesus) is held up, the deeper people get in love with Him, and the quicker they will drop everything else. So let us hold up Jesus and herald the coming of the King. Show them the great danger of the tribulation. Preach Jesus and hold unto God until the signs follow. There is something wrong unless they do follow. Don't wait until you have any special gift. Believe you can do it, and it will be done. Not only send forth the prayer, but look to God for courage."
