God's Healing, What does the Bible Say About It?

As you read and study what has bee written here, do not just blindly accept it.  Please check the Scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you His truth.  The Scriptures quoted are from the King James version with the words of Jesus in red.

Any of us who have read the Bible know we serve a God who heals. The New Testament contains descriptions of many occurrences of healing. In fact Scripture indicates Jesus healed ALL who came to Him. One of the questions to be asked is what type of healing occurred? This is not an exhaustive list of occurrences of healing from Scripture, but it does indicate the wide variety of afflictions ministered to by Christ and His disciples. The afflictions are not listed in any particular order.

What can we Conclude from these Scriptures?

Christ’s ministry was primarily to redeem us from our fallen sinful state. Another of His ministries, however, was to be our source of healing. This is made abundantly clear in the 53rd Chapter of Isaiah, verses 4 through 6 where this prophecy is spoken about Christ: "Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our inequities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed."

Notice the wording of this Scripture. It says "we ARE healed." This is past tense - it has already occurred. The many Scriptures, which have been noted already, show clearly Christ as one who healed all that came to Him. Not only did Christ heal people, but He also sent the disciples out to heal as well. Those who were healed were suffering from a broad variety of afflictions.

These Scriptures show those Jesus healed, or the one requesting healing of another, were all in His presence. It also shows He treated each one in a different manner, indicating there is no set pattern or formula to follow. Because it is God, through the Holy Spirit, that makes one whole we must allow Him to direct our action and prayer. Only He knows the source of the affliction and only He can correct the condition.

F. F. Bosworth, who lived from 1877 to 1958 and had an incredible ministry of Divine Healing writes this in his book "CHRIST THE HEALER" which was published in 1924.

To understand the importance of this we should consider the instruction contained in verses 20 to 22 of the fourth chapter of Proverbs.

This instructs us to do three things: first, we are to have an attentive ear to the words of God; secondly, we are to steadfastly look upon them; and thirdly, we must enshrine them in or upon our heart. When we do these three things, we will have gained life and health.

We are further instructed in verses 2 and 3 of Psalm 103 to "Bless the Lord" and "forget not all His benefits" to be forgiven of ALL our sins and healed of ALL our diseases.

Matthew tells us that Jesus healed all that were sick thereby fulfilling the prophecy which was spoken by the Old Testament prophet Esaias.

We are commanded to have the elders of the church anoint us with oil in the name of the Lord and to pray over us when we are sick.

The word of God is truth. While it may be delivered to you by man, it is not man’s word but has been spoken by God to man and is truth which is to be believed.

Paul, in 1 Corinthians 12, describes the gifts of the spirit and he includes the gift of healing. And in Hebrews 13:8, Christ is described as being the same yesterday, today, and forever. These two Scriptures would indicate we should expect to be healed in our lifetime, not at some future ‘bye and bye time.’

We know of many who have come before the Lord in prayer for a healing touch from Jesus and been healed. There are, however, many more who have not been healed when they were prayed for which seems contrary to Scripture. The explanations for those who were not healed are as many as the ones who prayed for them. Most of the explanations tend to be an excuse for our human failing rather than the admittance that our God is the one who heals, not us. We may never know, why some are healed and others not, until that day when we see Jesus face-to-face and can ask Him about it. In the meantime we must trust what the Scriptures say about healing. Our prayer for healing should be offered in faith, believing it has been heard by God, along with the knowledge that it is His will to heal us. When you combine these instructions and conclusions it seems clear to me that it is God’s intention that ALL who come into His presence seeking to be made whole will be healed.
